Emily Rae born on the 8th February 2012 at Parklands
Candice rang me to say she was having her second baby and would I help them. Ofcourse it was a great delight to be able to birth both of the babies. I had a very busy week with a home birth on Monday night and now this was Tuesday night and I was heading off to bed when the phone rang and Candy said " I think things are happening" so off I went and down to Parklands in Durban arriving just after 1am. As a repeat from Julian's birth the contractions stopped and we all went back to their home in Glenwood.
I spent the night in Julian's ferrari red car bed!!! I kept thinking David (by husband) is going to dine out on this story. Doula sleeps in Ferrari for the night.
The following morning we all went back to Parklands and had a long wait for the gynae as he was in theatre for the morning and I kept Paul and Candice busy with lonpos (puzzle) ... it is exciting and the time flies.
At 11h30 Dr Nagel broke her waters and Candice felt nothing and had a good lunch. 14h00 and a drip went up and the party was on!!
Candice went from 3cm to fully dilated in 49 minutes and Emily arrived at 14h49. weighing a healthy 3.3kg and 53 long and 34 cm head circum.
Paul and I worked as a team during this short labour and then I thought about it again... this is a birth and we never know how it is going to happen. Although it was the second birth it was very different from Julian's birth and we had to act accordingly. Candice was on all fours as I felt that was the most comfortable for her and time flew.
When Dr Nagel arrived Emily s head was crowning and she was birthed smoothly although her cord was around her neck and her shoulders were a tight fit. No tearing.. The best news ever.
Another birth journey for me and a beautiful little girl Emily to be a little sister to Julian.
Thanks Candice and Paul for sharing your special time with me. Words can never do justice.
